On May 12th the Bremen Minor League All-Stars hosted Concord in a rematch of the 1st game of the season. The All-Stars played tough but Concord’s defense was tougher, resulting in a 15 to 7 loss. Bremen’s bats started to show signs of life again. The All-Stars were led by Jacob Wunder – 3 for 3, 1 single, 2 doubles, 2 runs scored; Preston Porter – 2 for 3, 1 single, 1 double, 3 RBI’s, 2 runs scored; Joshua Stratford – 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored; Blane Newcomer – 1 single, 1 run scored; Carson Spaid – 2 walks and 1 run scored; Collin Moren had 2 walks and Mason Porter, Marty Manges, Phoenix Martin, and Logan Hite each had 1 walk. The All-Stars are getting shifty on the bases, too. They had 15 stolen bases during the game. The team is playing hard and getting better. We have our next practice on May 19th from 5 to 7 PM. We are going to work on our fielding, bunting and base running. The coaches are looking forward to the practice to tweak our game before we host Middlebury on May 23rd at 6:00 PM. Players need to be there as close to 5:00 PM for warm-ups as possible. See you Saturday and Good Luck in your 3C’s Tournament games this week.

The Bremen Minor League All-Stars hosted a strong Middlebury team on Wednesday, May 9th. Bremen struggled to get their bats going all night and ended the game with a 15 to 4 loss. Leading the All-Stars in batting was Blane Newcomer - 1 single, 2 RBI’s, Collen Moren and Carson Spaid each had 1 single, Preston Porter - 1 walk and 1 RBI, Josh Stratford – 1 RBI, Pheonix Martin and Hunter Bennitt – 2 walks and 1 run scored each, Logan Hite - 1 walk, Marty Manges – 1 walk, 1 run scored, Mason Porter – 1 HBP, 1 run scored. Although we need some practice and confidence with our batting, our pitching was looking better. Collen Moren, Blane Newcomer, and Josh Stratford only walked 3 batters all night for a total pitch count of 36 balls and 81 strikes for a percentage of strikes thrown of 69.2%! That is a big improvement since our first game last week. Our next game is against Concord on Saturday night at 7:00 PM at Bremen. We want the players down at the field by 5:30 PM so that we can get warmed up and practice a few things before the game.

The Bremen Minor League All-Stars played their first 2 games of the year this past weekend. On Saturday, May 5th, they travelled to Concord to take on a tough team. Bremen jumped out to an early lead and battled hard the whole game but ended up losing by a score of 13 to 12. Leading the All-Stars in batting was Joushua Stratford - 3 for 3, 1 single, 2 doubles, 1 walk, 3 RBI's, 2 runs scored, Blane Newcomer - 3 for 4, 3 singles, 1 RBI, 3 runs scored, Preston Porter - 2 for 2, 2 singles, 2 walks, 1 RBI, 1 runs scored, Collen Moren - 1 for 2, 1 single, 2 walks, 2 runs scored, Logan Hite - 1 for 2, 1 single, 1 walk, 1 RBI, Carson Spaid - 2 walks, 1 RBI, Jacob Wunder - 3 walks, 3 runs scored, and Mason Porter - 2 walks. Out in the field, Preston Porter showed his glove with a fly ball catch at 2nd and throw to 1st for a double play!

On Sunday, May 6th, they hosted Nappanee. Nappanee built up a 14 to 4 lead heading in to the bottom of the 6th and Bremen battled back to a 14 to 11 loss. Leading the All Stars in batting was Joshua Stratford - 2 for 2, 1 single, 1 double, 1 walk, 2 RBI's, 3 runs scored, Preston Porter - 2 for 2, 2 singles, 1 walk, 3 RBI's, 1 run scored and an AWESOME bunt, Jacob Wunder - 1 for 2, 1 single, 1 walk, 2 runs scored, Blane Newcomer and Carson Spaid each had 2 walks and 2 runs scored, Logan Hite hat 1 walk and 1 run scored Ben Balsley had a single, Mason Porer and Pheonix Martin each had 2 walks and Marty Manges had 1 walk and got on base after getting hit in the helmet.

We are starting to come together as a team. I think we have our fisrt game jtters out of the way and now we can focus on getting those hits that slipped away in the first games. Our next Game is against Middlebury on Wednesday, May 9th, at 6:00 PM at Bremen. Players should be at the ball field no later than 5:15, ready to play.

Lastly, a couple of schedule changes are as follows: The game against Concord on Saturday, May 12th will now start at 7:00 PM instead of 6:00 PM. We are also going to have a practice on Wednesday May 16th, from 5:15 to 7:15 PM to help us work on a few things we have noticed in the games. Thank you and see you on Wednesday night.

We had a great practice on Sunday. Everyone hustled and was eager to learn. We worked on how to defend the bunt and the players picked that up quickly. We were able to see how some of the players pitch to batters. There is some room to improve on our pitching and batting, but overall we are coming together as our first game gets closer. Our next practice is at 5:15 on Wednesday May 2nd. We are going to work on hitting, bunting, and stealing. We have also added a game on Saturday, June 16th at home against Mentone at 6:00 PM. We are also working on at least one game with Rochester in June. It will probably be Saturday, June 9th at 6:30 at Bremen, we will let you know as soon as we get it scheduled.

Last night’s weather gave all the kids a night of much needed rest. The coaches look forward to seeing the kids on Saturday, April 28th from 5-7 P.M. for a great practice. The kids have shown great attitude and hustle in the first two practices that we had. We have two practices to go before our first game, so hopefully the weather will cooperate as we have several things to cover. Out first game is on May 5th against Concord. The game start time has changed to 5:30 P.M. and we will have directions to Concord for everyone in the near future. See you on Saturday and keep up the great work.
